DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October 6th) sold 1,009 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.

The show champion sponsored by Iain MacEachen Haulage Ltd and judged by Mr Cameron MacIver, Easter Strath of Auchterflow was awarded to a 260kg 7 month old Limousin cross from Mr D MacLean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea realising £1,060. The reserve champion was a 310kg 8 month old Limousin cross from Mr I Grant, Seaview Cottage, Gairloch which realised £900

Bullocks (535) averaged 288.9p (last year 262.4p) and sold to 409.8p per kg for a 205kg Charolais cross from Guisachan Farm, Cannich and £1,180 gross for a 545kg Limousin cross from 2 Coast, Inverasdale.

Heifers (468) averaged 260.9p (last year 246.9p) and sold to 354.0p per kg for a 226kg Simmental cross from Dunlichity Farm, Farr and £1,180 gross for a 360kg Limousin cross from 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea.

Young Bulls (6) averaged 241.3p (last year 214.4p) and sold to 293.8p per kg for a 470kg Beef Shorthorn from Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell and £740 gross for a 350kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Strathaird Farms, Broadford.
