DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (March, 23rd) sold 517 store cattle, 21 adult head of breeding cattle and 66 OTM cattle.
Bullocks (244) averaged 244.2p per kg and sold to 283.6p per kg for a 335kg British Blue cross from 189 Fleucharry, Dornoch and £1,260 gross for a pen of 535kg Simmental crosses from 1 Dounie, Edderton.
Heifers (265) averaged 239.2p per kg and sold to 287.7p per kg for a 285kg Limousin cross from Lower Whitebog, Fortrose and £1,190 gross for a 515kg Limousin cross from Balaggan Farm, Culloden.
Young Bulls (8) averaged 201.4p per kg and sold to 217.2p per kg for a 290kg Aberdeen Angus from 8 Acres, Daviot and £930 gross for a pair of 442kg Beef Shorthorns from Kinlochy, Wick.
Cow with male calf (3) sold to £1,900 for Simmental cross cow with a Limousin cross calf at foot from Cullaird Farm, Scaniport.
Cow with heifer calf (2) sold to £1,650 for a Simmental cross cow with a Limousin cross calf at foot from Cullaird Farm, Scaniport.
In calf cows (15) sold to £1,220 for a Limousin cross cow in calf to Limousin bull from Cullaird Farm, Scaniport.
In calf heifers (1) sold to £680 for a Aberdeen Angus cross heifer in calf to Limousin cross bull from 37/55 Sangomore, Durness.
"A more mixed show for quality this week greeted a packed ringside of buyers. There wouldn't be the same quality forward to that of the last sale which reflects in the average, however good grazers and well bred heifers met the firmest enquiry out of all the classes"

“The cow trade continues to ramp on at a rate not like a cruise liner in the Pacific Ocean. Another phenomenal trade was recorded for mainly feeding types forward. There was a distinct lack of fed cows forward leaving buyer’s order books unfulfilled.”
