Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd - Sale Cattle 14 September 2022

Heifers (189) averaged 271.3p per kg (down 23.9p on the year) and sold to 204.3p per kg for a pen of 230kg Charolais Crosses from Dunlichty Farm and sold to £1,010 gross for a 405kg Charolais Cross from Barnakill Farm, Lochgilphead.

OTM Cattle (34) sold to 195.9p per kg for a 725kg Aberdeen Angus Cross cow from Ardtornish Farms and £1,510 gross for an 885kg Hereford Cross cow also from Ardtornish Farms.

"The biggest show of calves witnessed at this centre for some time, sold away at rip-roaring trade to a larger ringside of buyers. Despite averages recording at levels lower than last year's bonanza at £3 a kilo many of the noted homes with the best-bred Limousin and Charolais calves achieved prices which were well in excess of £3 per kg. It was noticeable that there were more funny aged and smaller calves forward which impacted on the overall average of the sale.
The 34 cast cows cashed in at levels this centre has never witnessed before recording a phenomenal average of 161.7p per kg despite there being lean hill cows forward.
