DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highlands Marts Ltd, (September, 13th) sold 4,202 ewe lambs and gimmers at the Highland Mule Breeders Association annual show and sale.
The gimmer judge, Mr D. Ross, Brenachie, awarded the Challenge cup for best pen of gimmers to a pen of 20 Mules from Nether Comisty, Forgue, which realised £180 to Messrs D. Coghill & Sons, Skinnet, Halkirk. Mr G. McKilligan, Coxton, Cornhill, who judged the ewe lambs, awarded the Secretary's cup to a pen from The Arr, Nairn, which realised £135 to Mr W. T. Morison, South Bogbain, Keith.
Highland Mule gimmers (1,120) averaged £161.70 (+ £14.06 on the corresponding sale last year) and sold to £195 gross for a pen of 30 from Croftdhu, Tomatin.
Other breeds of gimmers (107) averaged £113.79 and sold to £170 gross for Cheviot Mules from Dell Farm, Farr.
Highland Mule ewe lambs (2,906) averaged £103.55 (+ £20.41 on the year) and sold to £135 gross from The Arr.
Other breeds of ewe lambs (69) averaged £70.33 and sold to £100 gross for Cheviot Mules from Dell Farm.
"There was an excellent show of gimmers and ewe lambs leading to extremely strong prices throughout."

Bullocks (125) averaged 299.6p per kg and sold to 361.3p per kg for a pen of 191kg Limousin crosses from 387 Elphin, Lairg and £2,000 gross for a 650kg British Blue cross from Easter Kirk, Wick.

Dingwall's annual sale is becoming quite a spectacle to be seen with demand rising especially further afield in pedigree flocks.
