Highland Development Plan Consultation Gets Under Way

A 10-week public consultation gets under way on Friday 24 September on The Highland Council's Highland wide Local Development Plan, which represents the Council's land use vision, strategy and principal, general policies for the whole Highland Council area except that part within the Cairngorms National Park Authority boundary.

The deadline for comments is 5 pm on Friday 3 December.

The plan can be inspected free of charge during normal opening hours at every public library, planning office and Service Point in the Highlands and it is also available on all mobile libraries and can be viewed online at:
http://www.highland.gov.uk/developmentplans

The Plan is an important, statutory document that affects the consideration of planning applications and other public and private investment decisions. It will be discussed at the following Ward Forum meetings:-

• 28 September 2010 - East Sutherland and Edderton
• 29 September 2010 - Nairn
• 25 October 2010 - Eilean a Cheo
• 27 October 2010 - Badenoch and Strathspey
• 27 October 2010 - Dingwall and Seaforth
• 28 October 2010 - Tain and Easter Ross
• 11 November 2010 - Aird and Loch Ness
• 11 November 2010 - Inverness City Forum
• 15 November 2010 - Caithness Forum
• 29 November 2010 - Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

There will also be the chance for the public to view the plan at the following drop-in sessions, which run from 1pm-6pm:-
• 29 September 2010 - Nairn
• 6 October 2010 - Cawdor
• 27 October 2010 - Tain
• 1 November 2010 - Portree
• 4 November 2010 - Ardersier
• 10 November 2010 - Thurso
• 11 November 2010 - Inverness
• 15 November 2010 - Fort William
• 15 November 2010 - Wick

The public is also being offered the chance to make an appointment to discuss the Plan and this can be done by contacting the Development Plans Team (01463) 702259 or devplans[AT]highland.gov.uk. Each appointment will last a maximum of 10 minutes. The venues are:-

• 27 September - Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road,
• 4 October - Inverness Service Point, Inverness;
• 1 November - Portree Community Centre, Portree, Isle of Skye;
• 8 November - Town Hall, Wick;
• 15 November - Council Offices, Drummuie, Golspie;
• 15 November - Gordon Square, Fort William;
• 15 November - 100 High Street, Kingussie,
• 22 November - Council Offices, High Street, Dingwall; and
• 29 November - Court House, High Street, Nairn.

Council calls for meaningful engagement from Home Office Over 300 Asylum Seekers Being Sent to Inverness
The Highland Council continues to call for meaningful engagement from the Home Office over its plans to temporarily accommodate up to 300 adult male asylum seekers at Cameron Barracks, Inverness.   It follows an email on Monday from Alex Norris MP, Minister for Border Security and Asylum, to Council Leader, Raymond Bremner, which failed to answer questions raised by the Council or address community concerns.

SSEN Transmission has become the first company to sign up to the Highland Social Value Charter (HSVC), marking a significant milestone in delivering long-term socio-economic benefits for communities across the Highlands.   Investment commitments from the company include funding for roads, new homes, jobs, and work for local contractors in addition to a local and regional fund for communities to apply to.
