Caithness Employers Thanked For Supporting Pupils

Caithness businesses are being invited to attend an award ceremony to receive thanks from The Highland Council for the ongoing and valuable contributions they make in supporting pupils through skills for work; work experience; and enterprise projects.
An invitation from The Highland Council's, Education, Culture and Sport Service has gone out to local businesses to attend the ceremony at Park Hotel, Oldfield, Thurso on Thursday 10 February at 6:45pm.
The Highland Council's, Director of Education, Culture and Sport Hugh Fraser said: "This is a time of great change in Scottish Education. It is more important than ever that we help young people to develop Skills for Life and Work. Employers and businesses working in partnership with schools play a crucial role in preparing our pupils for the world of work and their future careers."
He added: "We are recognising the important input employers and businesses make to education by hosting a series of events throughout the Highlands over the next few months. These events support the national enterprise agenda which has, as a main theme engaging employers."
Business that supported pupils at Thurso and Wick High Schools and their feeder primary schools and Airport House will be presented with an award at the event from Councillor Bill Fernie Chairman of The Highland Council's Education, Culture and Sport Committee.
Councillor Fernie welcomed the support from local businesses in Caithness to local pupils he said: "Our pupils of today are all potential employees and indeed employers of the future and hopefully the support that they have received from local companies has inspired them to adopt an enterprising attitude and set them up with useful skills for
any future career hopes and aspirations that they have."
Those attending will hear from young people and others about the value of partnership working, demonstrating the difference employer engagement makes in supporting education and preparing young people for the world of work.

The Highland Council's In-House bus service pilot project was launched in January 2023. The success of its first year of operation in delivering savings and creating a valued and reliable service was highlighted at today’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee.
Members of Highland Council's Economy and Infrastructure Committee today (2 May 2024) approved the local authority's draft Ecology Strategy and Action Plan which will now move forward to an 12-week public consultation. The Ecology Strategy sets out an ambitious set of actions to tackle biodiversity loss and address the ecological emergency.
Economy and Infrastructure Committee members today (2 May 2024) agreed to direct £100K from the Council's share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to fund a new staff training programme at the Inverness Castle Experience. The funding will enable the project team to provide specialist visitor attraction training to young people identified through partners at Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).
The Housing and Property Committee met on Wednesday 1 May 2024 and noted the Housing Service performance report 2023/24 that met the agreed priorities and associated initiatives in the Local Housing Strategy 2023-2028. As intimated in Highland Council's budget plan, a new senior management structure is to be implemented following approval by Council 14th March. It reconfigures the senior management team into two layers, rather than three and brings Highland Council into line with other benchmarked authorities.
