DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October 6th) sold 184 rams at its Annual Show and Sale of Blackface Rams kindly sponsored by HBS Ring Limited and PK Nutrition ably judged by Mr D. Walton, Wamwood Hill.

The Overall Champion was a shearling from A. & J. Macpherson, Abersky, Torness realising £3,000. The Reserve Champion award went to Second Place Shearling from R. & S Duncan, Livet, Glenlivet realising £1,300.

"A similar entry of Blackface rams on the year followed the same as last. Length, carcass, and skin took preference in what purchasers were seeking. Big powerful tups were keenly bid for and easily sold whilst smaller sheep proved hard to cash."

Ewe Lambs (91) averaged £64.11 and sold to £150 for a pen of Blackfaces from Crackaig Blackies, Ardersier.
Store Lambs (96) sold to £79 gross for a Blackface from 1 Holoman Park, Raasay
Ewes (1,476) sold to £142 gross from Crackaig Blackies, Ardersier.
Gimmers (537) averaged £121.24 and sold to £355 Crackaig Blackies, Ardersier.
Feeding Sheep (19) sold to £66 gross for a Blackface wedder from Unakillie SSC.

“Blackface females met an animated trade, increasing averages ten-fold on the year. Scoring a hat trick, topping all female sections today was regular consigner Mr R. Flett, Crackaig Blackies. The Crackaig pen caught everyone’s eye today which was led by a pen outstanding gimmers at £355. Correct ewes on a whole met an exceptional trade with many intending purchasers venturing home empty handed.”
