Dingwall And Highland Marts Ltd - Cattle Sale 2 October 2024

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October 2nd) sold 671 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.

Bullocks (362) averaged 327.5p (+22.9p on the year) and sold to 926.8p per kg and £1,900 gross for a 205kg Limousin cross from Seaview Cottage, Gairloch.

Heifers (293) averaged 310.1p (+29.5p on the year) and sold to 463.0p per kg and £1,180 for a 255kg Charolais cross Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell.

Young Bulls (16) averaged 299.9p and sold to 344.8p per kg for a pen of 203kg Charolais crosses and £990 for a pair of 347kg Aberdeen Angus from Strathglass Farms, Cannich.

2nd & Reserve Champion - Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell, 255kg, £1,180

"Dingwall marts first district show and sale of calves was once again kindly sponsored by Iain Maceachen Haulage Limited. With Invercharron Vice captain Duncan Munro in charge of judging proceedings. Champion again was from Mr I Grant, Seaview Cottage, Gairloch whose Limousin cross bullock realsied £1,900 after a ferocious frenzy of bidding to Mr Kenny Maciver, Jindalee Farm Cottage, Dingwall. The Reserve Champion was awarded to the Keppoch stable with Messrs Renwicks Charolais heifer cashed in at £1,180 and heads to Caithness with Danny McBeath, Folly for the Overwintering competition. All classes od calves met a firm enquiry which coincides with the recent upturn in prime values. Averaged across the board increased on the year and many more could easily have been sold."
