Taking The Highlands To Cannes

Twenty years of films locating in the Highlands being celebrated in Cannes.
The Highlands of Scotland Film Commission, which is part of The Highland Council, is twenty years old, and to celebrate a brand new Highlands film app is being promoted in Cannes.
The Commission is at the cutting edge of technology in working with local Highland businesses to develop an I-Pad app which is being previewed as part of the Creative Scotland programme of events in Cannes. The I-pad magazine is to be launched at the Edinburgh Film Festival at the end of June.
The Commission which is part of the Council's Planning and Development Service has helped to facilitate the filming of a long list of productions from "Braveheart" and "Rob Roy" to more recent productions such as "The Dark Knight Rises", "Prometheus", "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" and "The Angel's Share" which is in the main competition in Cannes.
Over the last twenty years over £60 million of inward investment has been brought to the area in terms of film and television production.
The main aim of the Commission is to ensure that as much of a production budget as possible is spent on local business services and facilities.
Trish Shorthouse, Highland Council's Film Development Officer is in Cannes promoting the Scottish Highlands by encouraging film festival goers to download the app and access everything they need to know about filming in the Highlands including: stunning locations, permissions, cast, crew and facilities.

The first Highland-wide virtual jobs fair held last month has proved to be a hit with participants and businesses. The week-long virtual event, which was delivered by the Local Employability Partnership for the West - The Highland Council, Skills Development Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Department for Work and Pensions, Developing the Young Workforce and UHI North West and Hebrides was timed to coincide with Scottish Careers Week 2024.
