DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highlands Marts Ltd, (September, 10th) sold 4,207 ewe lambs and gimmers at the Highland Mule Breeders Association annual show and sale.
The gimmer judge, Mr E. Forbes, Lochdhu, Nairn, awarded the Challenge cup for best pen of Mule gimmers to Messrs G. & E. McKilligan, Coxton, Cornhill, which realised £180 to J. D. M. Munro, Pitkerrie, Fearn. The ewe lamb judge, Mr W. T. Morrison, South Bogbain, Keith, awarded the Secretary's cup to a pen from Mr W. G. Macpherson, Blackford Farm, Croy, which realised £145 to the Messrs S. Durno & Son, Croftbain, Ballindalloch.
Highland Mule gimmers (991) averaged £167.06 (- £2.47 on the corresponding sale of last year) and sold to £195 gross from Croftdhu, Tomatin.
Other breeds of gimmers (10) averaged £140 and sold to £140 gross for Suffolk x Mules from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall.
Highland Mule ewe lambs (3,148) averaged £106.19 (- £0.02 on the year) and sold to £145 gross for the champion pen.
Other breeds of ewe lambs (58) averaged £93.41 and sold to £100 gross for Texel x Mules from Mains of Clunas, Cawdor.
