North Highland College UHI business student wins £1000 prize in UHI competition

Jenna Forbes (21) from Westerdale beat off strong competition to win £1000 prize money for the Best Student Idea in the UHI Business Ideas competition recently held in Inverness.
Jenna, an HNC Business student at The North Highland College UHI pitched her idea to the judging panel at Inverness College UHI’s Longman Campus. Her novel idea involved bottling water from a well on her land which is recorded on the ordinance survey map as being a holy well.
Speaking about her win Jenna said “I am delighted to have been selected as a finalised in this competition with such a high level of entries. Competing in the UHI Business Ideas competition has given me the confidence to believe in my idea and perhaps develop it in future.”
A total of 170 entries were received from across the UHI partner colleges. Another North Highland College UHI student also made it to the final 16: Faye Grundon (17), an HNC Equine Studies student came up with an idea for horse rug patterns.
The competition is organised by the centre for innovation and enterprise (CREATE) at Inverness College. CREATE is funded by the European Social Fund, The Highland Council, Scotland’s Colleges and Inverness College to help students and graduates increase their enterprising skills and to help individuals start up their own businesses and become self-employed.
