DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April, 10th) sold 766 Aberdeen Angus, native bred and continental store cattle in a special show and sale and 11 OTM cattle.
Aberdeen Angus bullocks (326) averaged 230.1p (+9.5p on the corresponding sale from last year) and sold to 289.5p per kilo for the champion a 380kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Gaskbeg, Laggan, and £1,330 gross for a 695kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Ardjachie, Tain.
Aberdeen Angus heifers (255) averaged 216.4p (+16.9p on the corresponding sale from last year) and sold to 238.1p per kilo for the 1st prize heifer for a 420kg Aberdeen Angus from Gaskbeg, and £1,300 gross for a pair of 665kg Aberdeen Angus from Culrain Mains, Ardgay.
Other native bullocks (55) averaged 219.7p and sold to 263.8p per kilo for a 470kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Fearn Farm, Tain, and £1,400 gross for a 745kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Alvie Estate, Kingussie.
Other native heifers (39) averaged 194.7p and sold to 220.2p per kilo and £1,090 gross for a 495kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Alvie Estate.
Continental bullocks (47) averaged 219.8p and sold to 239.7p per kilo for a 290kg Limousin cross from Ardross Castle, Ardross, and £1,300 gross for a 600kg Charolais cross from Greenvale, Dunnet.
Continental heifers (44) averaged 209.7p and sold to 230.8p per kilo for 468kg Limousin crosses from Alvie Estate, and £1,150 gross for a 545kg Limousin cross from Achavraat, Nairn.
OTM cows (9) sold to 194.2p per kilo for a 685kg British Blue from Caplich, Alness, and £1,390 gross for a 1045kg Shorthorn cross from Knockglass, Dornoch.
OTM bulls (one) sold to 120.9p per kilo and £1,390 gross for a £1,150kg Simmental from North Calder, Halkirk.
OTM heifers (one) sold to 173.4p per kilo and £1,110 for a £640kg Saler cross from Caplich.
In the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society sponsored show and sale of store cattle judged by Mr A Cruickshank, South View, Keith, the overall champion was awarded to a 380kg bullock from Messrs J. G. Grant & Son, Gaskbeg, Laggan, realising £1,100 gross to Messrs W. A. Fettes, Braes of Enzie, Buckie. Reserve champion was a 410kg bullock also from Messrs J. G. Grant & Son, Gaskbeg, Laggan, realising £1,020 gross to Messrs W MacIver & Company, Flowerburn Mains, Fortrose.
