DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highlands Marts Ltd, (September, 9th) sold 4,335 ewe lambs and gimmers at the Highland Mule Breeders Association annual show and sale.
The gimmer judge, Mr J. C. MacIver, Wester Coltfield, Kinloss, awarded the Challenge cup for best pen of Mule gimmers to Messrs G. & E. McKilligan, Coxton, Cornhill, which realised £190 to L. Mackay, Birchwood, Dornoch. The ewe lamb judge, Mr E. Macarthur, Newton of Budgate, Cawdor, awarded the Secretary’s cup to a pen from Mr W. G. Macpherson, Blackford Farm, Croy, which realised £140 to the Messrs S. Durno & Son, Croftbain, Ballindalloch.
Highland Mule gimmers (1073) averaged £151.79 (- £15.27 on the corresponding sale of last year) and sold to £190 gross twice from Flichity Mains, Inverness shire, and Coxton, Cornhill.
Other breeds of gimmers (27) averaged £140 and sold to £175 gross for Zwartbles crosses from Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten.
Highland Mule ewe lambs (3,181) averaged £98.65 (- £7.54 on the year) and sold to £148 gross twice for the pens from Blackford Farm.
Other breeds of ewe lambs (47) averaged £77.02 and sold to £90 gross for Cheviot Mules from Achnabat, Torness.
“Although averaged showed a decrease on the year, a highly satisfactory trade prevailed.”
