DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 9th) sold 921 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge, Mr J. Henderson, Udale Farm, Poyntzfield, awarded the overall champion of the McCallum Haulage and Brogan Fuels sponsored show to a six month old Limousin cross bullock from Mr D. Maclean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea, scaling in at 315kg and realising £1100 gross to the Messrs G & S McConnachie , Berrybrae, Insch. The reserve champion was a 300kg, three month old Charolais cross bullock from Messrs Corriebheinn Farms, Portree, Isle of Skye, which realised £1050 to Miss A. Wilson, Wester Cairnglass.

Bullocks (498) averaged 269.3p (+ 47.6p on the year) and sold to 354p per kg for Charolais crosses from Corriebheinn Farms, and £1,200 gross for a 520kg Simmental cross from 61 Strathy East, North West Sutherland.
Heifers (423) averaged 238.6p (+ 28.6p on the year) and sold to 309.7p per kg for Charolais crosses from Corriebheinn Farms, and £1040 gross for a 585kg Limousin cross from Achany, Lairg.
