DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 16th) sold 1850 weaned calves at their second annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge, Mr G. Jack, Woodend, Muir of Ord, awarded the overall champion of the Forbes Transport and Barclays Haulage sponsored show to an eight month old Limousin cross bullock from the Firm of J. Munro & Son, Invercharron, Ardgay, scaling in at 370kg and realising £1400 gross to the judge. The reserve champion was a 335kg, six month old Limousin cross bullock from Mr J. A. Pirie, Chapelpark Farm, Kingussie, which realised £1180.
Bullocks (1084) averaged 263.7 (+37.4p on the year) and sold to 431.3p per kg for a 320kg Limousin cross from Dunmaglass Mains, Inverness, and £1400 gross for 370kg Limousin cross from Invercharron.
Heifers (766) averaged 237.6p (+35.3p on the year) and sold to 833.3p per kg and £2000 gross for a 240kg Limousin cross from Dunmaglass Mains, also £2000 gross for a 255kg Limousin cross from Chapelpark Farm.
