DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April, 9th) sold 735 Aberdeen Angus, native bred and continental store cattle in a special show and sale and 29 OTM cattle.
Aberdeen Angus bullocks (283) averaged 229.8p and sold to 274.6p per kilo for a pen of five 346kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from North Calder, Halkirk, and £1,380 gross for a pen of 687kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from Hilton Farm, Tain.
Aberdeen Angus heifers (195) averaged 213.1p and sold to 241.3p per kilo for a pen of seven 373kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from Torachilty Farm, Contin, and £1,300 gross for the Aberdeen Angus Champion, a 600kg Aberdeen Angus from Wester Fearn, Ardgay.
Other native bullocks (89) averaged 222.9p and sold to 250.6p per kilo for a pen of six 407kg Beef Shorthorn crosses from Greenvale, Dunnet, and £1,360 gross for the Shorthorn Reserve Champion, a 645kg Beef Shorthorn from Alvie Estate, Kingussie.
Other native heifers (77) averaged 202.8p and sold to 239.5p per kilo for a 380kg Shorthorn cross from Gaskbeg, Laggan, and £1,120 gross for a 585kg Shorthorn cross from Greenvale.
Continental bullocks (45) averaged 228.2p and sold to 258.6p per kilo for a 290kg Simmental cross from Rowanbarn, Plockton, and £1,370 gross for a 665kg Charolais cross from Rose Cottage, Spinningdale.
Continental heifers (46) averaged 218.5p and sold to 250p per kilo for pen of 300kg Simmental crosses from Lochend, Castletown (A. Swanson), and £1,310 gross for a pen of 581kg Charolais crosses from Rose Cottage.
Breeding bulls (3) sold to £3,900 gross for a Limousin from 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea.
OTM cows (24) averaged 129.6p and sold to 156.7p per kilo for a 670kg British Blue cross from Upperton, Balnain, and £1,170 gross for an 805kg Limousin cross from Achnahannet, Dulnain Bridge.
OTM bulls (two) sold to 93.4p per kilo and £990 gross for a £1,060kg Saler from Flichity Mains, Aberarder.
OTM clean bullocks & heifers (3) sold to 152.2p per kilo and £1,210 gross for a 795kg Aberdeen Angus from Ardshiel, Kingussie.
In the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society sponsored show and sale of store cattle judged by Mr A Anderson, Smallburn Farms, Plewlands, the overall champion was awarded to a 600kg heifer from Mr E. L. M. Laing, Wester Fearn, Ardgay, realising £1,300 gross to the judge. Reserve champion was a 600kg bullock also from Wester Fearn, again realising £1,300 gross to Mr H. Milne, Upperton, Fyvie.
