"X" to mark the vote in Thursday’s Euro Elections

On Thursday (22 May 2014) polling stations across the Highlands will be open from 7am to 10 pm for people to cast their vote in the European Elections.
Already more than 18,000 people have returned postal votes. Those still to post their vote must do so tomorrow (Wednesday), or deliver their envelope to any one of the 265 polling stations on Thursday.
The Local Returning Officer in the Highlands for the forthcoming European Parliamentary Elections, Chief Executive of The Highland Council, Steve Barron wants voters to be aware of what they need to do to cast their vote on Thursday.
He said: "We want to make sure people know that they should use a single X when they vote in this election. The X should be placed in the empty box alongside the chosen party or candidate. Everyone who is registered should have received a card with details of the polling place where they can cast their vote but if they have any queries they should get in touch with our election team on 01349 886657."

The Highland count will take place on Sunday at the Football Academy in Dingwall from 4.30pm onwards. The result will be relayed to the Scottish Regional Returning Officer in Edinburgh at the end of the evening. The six successful Scottish MEPs will be known on Monday once the counts from the 32 local returning areas are all completed.
