Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 24 September 2014

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 24th) sold 1,096 store cattle at their annual show and sale of Aberdeen Angus, native and continental store cattle sponsored by Brogan Fuels.
The judge, Mr H. Milne, Upperton, Fyvie, Turriff, awarded the continental champion to a 510kg Charolais cross heifer from Messrs K & J Grant, 2 Lochend, Barrock, Thurso, realising £1,290. The continental reserve was a 535kg Limousin cross bullock also from 2 Lochend, Barrock, realising £1,310. In the Aberdeen Angus section, the champion prize went to a 525kg bullock from Messrs Home Farms, Oldtown of Leys, Inverness, realising £1,200, and the reserve to a 505kg heifer from Messrs W MacIver & Co., Flowerburn Mains, Fortrose, realising £1,120.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks (266) averaged 221.8p and sold to 238.9p per kg for a pen of 404kg crosses from Smerral Farm, Bower, and £1,420 gross for a pen of 602kg crosses also from Rattar Mains, Thurso.
Aberdeen Angus heifers (128) averaged 205.4p and sold to 233.2p per kg for a pen of 446kg crosses from Stemster Mains, Halkirk, and £1,150 gross for 505kg crosses also from Stemster Mains.
Other native bred bullocks (88) averaged 208.9p and sold to 233.7 per kg for a pen of 505kg Shorthorn crosses from Achvarasdal Farm, Reay, and £1,420 gross for a 715kg Shorthorn cross from Rattar Mains.
Other native bred heifers (31) averaged 194.9p and sold to 222p per kg for a pair of 572kg Shorthorn crosses from Woodlands, Dingwall, and £1,300 gross for a pair of 615kg Shorthorn crosses also from Woodlands.
Continental bullocks (291) averaged 224.7p and sold to 271.8p per kg for a 390kg Limousin cross from 2 Forss, Thurso, and £1,400 gross for a 635kg Limousin cross from Sunnylea, Balblair.
Continental heifers (292) averaged 212.2p and sold to 271.2p per kg for a 365kg British Blue cross from Station Farm, Scotscalder, and £1,400 gross for a 580kg Limousin cross from 7 Balranald, Lochmaddy.
Cow with male calf (2) sold to £1,600 for a Shorthorn cross from The Antlers, Occumster.
Breeding bulls (2) sold to £1,320 for a Simmental from Kinnahaird, Contin.
