Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 8 October 2014

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 8th) sold 781 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge, Mr D. Maclennan, Roadside, Wester Muckernich, awarded the overall champion of the McCallum Haulage sponsored show to a six month old Limousin cross heifer from Mr D. Maclean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea, scaling in at 335kg and realising £970 gross to the Mr J. Fraser, Tore Mains, Tore. The reserve champion was a 255kg, six month old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Corriebheinn Farms, Portree, Isle of Skye, which realised £820 to the judge.

Bullocks (432) averaged 254.1p and sold to 404.8p per kg for a 210kg Limousin cross from 4 Bualnaluib, and £1,180 gross for 457kg Charolais crosses also from 4 Bualnaluib.
Heifers (349) averaged 243.6p and sold to 319.7p per kg for 122kg Limousin crosses from 1 Borrodale, Glendale, Isle of Skye, and £1,080 gross for a 345kg Limousin cross from 12 Bualnaluib, Aultbea.
OTM feeding cattle (44) averaged 103.1p and sold to 196.3p per kg for a 545kg Limousin bull, from Rychraggan Farm, Drumnadrochit, and £1,110 gross for a 770kg Charolais cross cow from Scotsburn Farm, Kildary, and a 740kg Blue Grey cross cow from Borowston Mains, Thurso.
