DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April, 8th) sold 631 Aberdeen Angus, native bred and continental store cattle in a special show and sale supported by Morrison's Supermarket, 10 adult head of breeding cattle and 23 OTM cattle.
Aberdeen Angus bullocks (241) averaged 228.9p and sold to 259p per kilo for a pair of 390kg Aberdeen Angus from Kirkton Farm, Golspie, and £1,300 gross for a pair of 725kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from Hilton Farm, Tain.
Aberdeen Angus heifers (199) averaged 217.1p and sold to 247.7p per kilo for a pen of 323kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from North Calder, Halkirk, and £1,250 gross for a 665kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Gaskbeg, Laggan.
Other native bullocks (87) averaged 223.5p and sold to 264.7p per kilo for a 340kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Grainish, Aviemore, and £1,420 gross for the reserve champion Shorthorn cross, a 770kg from Gaskbeg.
Other native heifers (39) averaged 203.7p and sold to 224.2p per kilo for a 330kg Shorthorn cross from Invertuim, Newtonmore, and £1,100 gross for a pen of 499kg Hereford crosses from Glenurquhart Farm, Cromarty.
Continental bullocks (43) averaged 234.9p and sold to 259p per kilo for a pen of 332kg Limousin crosses from Flowerburn Mains, Fortrose, and £1,100 gross for a pen of 461kg Simmental crosses from Kirkton Farm, Golspie.
Continental heifers (21) averaged 210.4p and sold to 248.3p per kilo for a 290kg Limousin cross from 1 Raddery, Fortrose, and £1,000 gross for a 490kg Simmental cross from Balnuran, Culloden Moor.
Breeding cattle (10) sold to £1,700 gross for an Aberdeen Angus bull from the dispersal of the Lochletter Herd, Drumnadrochit.
OTM cows (22) averaged 133.7p and sold to 177.6p per kilo for a 490kg Aberdeen Angus from Mountpleasant, Rosemarkie, and £1,130 gross for an 855kg Shorthorn cross from Achley Farm, Dornoch.
In the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society sponsored show and sale of store cattle judged by Aileen Ingram, East Comalegy, Drumblade, the overall champion was awarded to a 575kg heifer from Messrs L. & A. Taylor, Ardjachie, Tain, realising £1,200 gross to the judge. Reserve champion was the 560kg second prize heifer from Mr E. L. M. Laing, Wester Fearn, Ardgay, and realising £1,120 gross also to the judge.
Whilst in the Shorthorn section, sponsored by Brogan Fuels and MSD Animal Health, the champion was awarded to Messrs Alvie Estate, Kincraig, with a 650kg bullock realising £1,280, and the reserve went to Messrs J. G. Grant & Son, Gaskbeg, Laggan with a 770kg bullock, realising £1,420.
