DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 23rd) sold 916 store cattle at their annual show and sale of Aberdeen Angus, native and continental store cattle sponsored by Brogan Fuels.
The judge, Mr D. Budge, Brae-edge Farm, Castletown, awarded the Aberdeen Angus champion to a 600kg bullock from Mrs L. Allan, Lower Ardnagrask, realising £1,280. The Aberdeen Angus reserve was a 545kg bullock from Messrs G. & D. Coghill, Stemster Mains, Halkirk, realising £1,300. In the Shorthorn section, the champion prize went to a 530kg bullock from Messrs Alvie Estate, Kincraig, realising £1,180, and the reserve to a 535kg bullock also from Alvie Estate, realising £1,180.
Continental champion was a 590kg Limousin cross bullock from Mr G. Anderson, Auchenhalrig Farm, Spey Bay, realising £1,350, and the reserve was a 555kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs D. & E. Forbes, Sunnylea, Balblair, realising £1,290.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks (184) averaged 229.4p and sold to 271.4p per kg for a 140kg cross from 5 North Duntulm, Isle of Skye, and £1,360 gross for a 615kg cross from Clatequoy, Glengolly.
Aberdeen Angus heifers (62) averaged 208.1p and sold to 222.2p per kg for a pen of 450kg crosses from Clatequoy, and £1,330 gross for a 670kg cross from Greenvale, Dunnet.
Other native bred bullocks (122) averaged 213.3p and sold to 232.8p per kg for a pen of 464kg Shorthorn crosses from 1 Skaill, Dounreay, and £1,180 gross for a pair of 532kg Shorthorn crosses from Alvie Estate.
Other native bred heifers (52) averaged 201.1p and sold to 216.5p per kg for a pair of 448kg Shorthorn crosses from 8 Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew, and £1,300 gross for a 650kg Shorthorn cross from Greenvale.
Continental bullocks (233) averaged 224p and sold to 255.4p per kg for a 370kg Charolais cross from The Rowans, Brora, and £1,350 gross for a 590kg Limousin cross from Auchenhalrig Farm.
Continental heifers (261) averaged 217.3p and sold to 253.5p per kg for a 434kg Simmental cross from Ardersier Mains, Ardersier, and £1,290 gross for a 555kg Limousin cross from Sunnylea.
Cow with male calf (17) sold to £1,620 for a Limousin cross cow from 81 East Brora, Brora.
Cow with female calf (18) sold to £1,600 for a Shorthorn cross cow from 81 East Brora.
Breeding bulls (4) sold to £1,500 for a Luing from the dispersal of the Myrelandhorn herd, Caithness.
"Top lots of Aberdeen Angus, Shorthorn, and Continental cattle sold exceptionally well, plainer and weathered kinds were more hesitant."
