DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 7th) sold 690 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge, Mr C. MacIver, Easter Strath of Auchterflow, Killen, awarded the overall champion of the NFU Mutual (Dingwall office) sponsored show to a seven month old British Blue cross heifer from Mr M. A. Macdonald, Meadle, Isle of Skye, scaling in at 330kg and realising £1200 gross to the judge. The reserve champion was a 310kg, six month old Limousin cross heifer from Mr D. Maclean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea, which realised £860.
Bullocks (376) averaged 242.3p and sold to 339p per kg for a 295kg Limousin cross from 4 Bualnaluib, and £1,175 gross for a 495kg Limousin cross from Leidcruich, Heights of Docharty.
Heifers (314) averaged 224.7p and sold to 363.6p per kg and £1,200 gross for the champion, a 330kg British Blue cross from Meadle, Isle of Skye.
