Second round of Community Council Nominations

6th February 2016

Following the second call for candidates wishing to serve on Highland Community Councils to come forward - a total of 19 Councils attracted sufficient interest to form a new Council.

The uncontested community councils in the second round are:
•Ardgay Community Council
•Arisaig and District Community Council
•Balintore and Hilton Community Council
•Ballifer Community Council
•Bower Community Council
•Coigach Community Council
•Conon Bridge Community Council
•Dulnain Bridge Community Council
•Inver Community Council
•Kiltarlity Community Council
•Kinlochleven Community Council
•Kyle Community Council
•Lochardil and Drummond Community Council
•Morvern Community Council
•Muirtown Community Council
•Raasay Community Council
•Sinclairs Bay Community Council
•Strathpeffer Comunity Council
•West Ardnamurchan Community Council.

Grantown and Spey and Vicinity Community Council drew more nominations than their maximum membership, paving the way for an election to take place on 3 March 2016.

The maximum membership of each of the Highland Community Councils is determined by the population it serves and varies from 7 to 13 members.

Ballot papers will be posted out on Wednesday, 17 February 2016. Young people aged 16 and 17 will be able to take part providing they have completed a registration form.

Eight Community Councils will not be established as they failed to attract half the maximum membership. The next opportunity for nominations to be made to those Community Council&s will be confirmed at a later date.

•Holm Community Council
•Laggan Community Council
•Lochbroom Community Council
•Mallaig Community Council
•Stromeferry and Achmore Community Council

Still time to return Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council election ballots

Anyone eligible to vote in the contested Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council election is reminded that their postal ballot papers need to be completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope provided by 12 noon on Thursday, 8 October 2026.   Candidates standing were invited to submit a statement to support their candidacy and these statements are provided in the envelopes mailed out along with the ballot papers to all eligible voters.

Highland Council proceeds to procurement for a new electric Corran Ferry

The Highland Council has reached another significant milestone in the delivery of a replacement Corran Ferry, with the procurement for a new electric vessel.   Funded through a £58 million investment from the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, including £28 million from the Scottish Government for the new electric vessel, £20 million from the UK Government and £10 million from The Highland Council towards landside infrastructure, the project will deliver a modern replacement ferry service for one of Scotland's busiest single-vessel crossings.

Reforming Scotland’s Councils: Should We Test One Region Before Reorganising Them All?
