DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (July, 20th) sold 1,585 store cattle and 9 adult head of breeding cattle at their 13th anniversary show and sale.
The Judge, Mr N. R. Gall, Home Farm, Kinninmonth, chose as his overall champion in the show sponsored by T. S H. Burns & Son Solicitors, Conanvet, Ian Roger Haulage, HRN Tractors & The Farmers Guardian to the senior champion, a 595kg 21-month old Charolais cross heifer from Messrs Smallburn Farms, Duffus, Elgin, which realised £1,400 to the judge.
The reserve champion award went to the junior champion, an 8-month old, 335kg British Blue bullock from Mr I. Grant, Slattadale, Lochmaree, which realised £950 to Messrs C & A Cameron, Montgrew Farm, Keith.
Bullocks (873) averaged 230.4p (-24.2p on the year) and sold to 303.7p per kg for a 270kg British Blue from Fornighty Farm, Lethen, and £1430 gross for a 690kg Limousin cross from The Cloy, Fortrose.
Heifers (712) averaged 221.9p (-23.7p on the year) and sold to 296.2p per kg for a 260kg Limousin cross from Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell, and £1400 gross for a 705kg Charolais cross from Ardjachie, Tain.
Breeding cattle (9) sold to £2350 gross for a British Blue cow with a Limousin cross heifer calf at foot from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin.
"A good show in all classes met a strong demand with the overall sale average an acceptable £80 per head back on the extreme rates of last year."
