DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highlands Marts Ltd, (September, 12th) sold 4,784 ewe lambs and gimmers at the Highland Mule Breeders Association annual show and sale.

The gimmer judge, Mr R. Gillies, Charleston, North Kessock, awarded the Challenge cup for best pen of Mule gimmers to Mrs S. Johnstone, Croftdhu, which realised £205 to Mr B. Buchan, Clinterty, Fraserburgh. The ewe lamb judge, Mr H. Fraser, Kinchyle, Scaniport, awarded the Secretary's cup to a pen from Mr R. MacKenzie, Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten, which realised £130 to the judge.

Highland Mule gimmers (1,169) averaged £136.25 (- £5.51 on the corresponding sale of last year) and sold to £205 from Croftdhu, Tomatin.
Other breeds of gimmers (101) averaged £121.80 and sold to £135 for Dutch Texel crosses from Coxton, Cornhill.
Highland Mule ewe lambs (3,468) averaged £102.67 (+ £14.71 on the year) and sold to £200 from Milton of Aberarder, Dores.
Other breeds of ewe lambs (46) averaged £82.61 and sold to £95 for Cheviot Mules from Achnabat, Dores.

"Gimmer trade saw selective lots at extreme rates with the rest a steady demand. Overall the lambs looked in excellent bloom and were much more keenly bid for."
