DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highlands Marts Ltd, (September, 11th) sold 5,117 ewe lambs and gimmers at the Highland Mule Breeders Association annual show and sale.

The gimmer judge, Mr B. Buchan, Clinterty, New Aberdour, awarded the Challenge cup for best pen of Mule gimmers to Mrs S. Johnstone, Croftdhu, which realised £160 to Mr H. Mackellar, Craigroy, Dallas. The ewe lamb judge, Mrs S. Johnstone, Croftdhu, Ballindalloch, awarded the Secretary's cup to a pen from Mr P. Junor, Balchraggan, Dores, which realised £120 to Messrs W. S. Garson & Son, Huan, Sandwick.

Highland Mule gimmers (1,325) averaged £126.27 (- £9.98 on the corresponding sale of last year) and sold to £165 from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall.

Other breeds of gimmers (135) averaged £106.78 (-£15.02 on the corresponding year) and sold to £125 for Beltex crosses from Dell Farm, Farr.

Highland Mule ewe lambs (3,615) averaged £83.03 (- £19.64 on the year) and sold to £125 from Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten.

Other breeds of ewe lambs (42) averaged £81.71 (- .90p on the corresponding year) and sold to £112 for Cheviot Mules from Achnabat, Dores.

"Top lots of gimmers sold well, others meeting a selective enquiry. Strong lambs met a decent steady demand with smaller lambs looking more in buyers favour."
