DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 20th) sold 1164 store cattle at their annual show and sale of Aberdeen Angus, native and continental store cattle sponsored by Johnston Carmichael Chartered Accountants, Inverness & Zoetis with Surecalf.
The judge, Mr D. Anderson, Smallburn Farms, Duffus, awarded the Aberdeen Angus champion to a 580kg bullock from Messrs G. & D. Coghill, Stempster Mains, Halkirk, realising £1,300. The Aberdeen Angus reserve was a 460kg heifer also from Messrs G. & D. Coghill, realising £1,080. In the Shorthorn section, the champion prize went to a 500kg bullock from Messrs R. R. MacKay & Co Ltd, Rattar Mains, Thurso realising £1,100, and the reserve to a 525kg bullock from Messrs C. MacAdie & Sons, 1 Skaill, Thurso realising £1,100.
Continental champion was a 575kg Limousin cross bullock from Messrs D. & E. Forbes, Sunnylea, Balblair realising £1,200, and the reserve was a 455kg Limousin cross heifer from Mr I. J. Stewart, Lower Whitebog, Fortrose, realising £1,100.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks (279) averaged 217.3p and sold to 246.2p per kg for a 390kg cross from Strathvaich, and £1,360 gross for a pen of 601kg cross from Stemster Mains, Halkirk.
Aberdeen Angus heifers (188) averaged 210.9p and sold to 238.0p per kg for a pen of 332kg crosses from Charleston Farm, Thurso, and £1,120 gross for a pair of 512kg crosses from 3 Dounie, Edderton.
Other native bred bullocks (137) averaged 203.2p and sold to 239.5p per kg for a pen of 451kg British Shorthorn crosses from Tullochgorum Farm, Boat of Garten, and £1,170 gross for a pair of 454kg Wagu crosses from Stempster Mains.
Other native bred heifers (53) averaged 187.2p and sold to 220.7p per kg for a pair of 435kg British Shorthorn crosses from Rattar Mains, and £1,060 gross for a 535kg Shorthorn cross from 3 Dounie.
Continental bullocks (275) averaged 213.4p and sold to 266.3p per kg for a pair of 368kg Limousin crosses from 217 the Doll, Brora and £1,450 gross for an 810kg Charolais cross from Old Bank House, Lochmaddy.
Continental heifers (232) averaged 203.5p and sold to 259.3p per kg for a pair of 482kg Limousin crosses from Hilton Farm, Tain and £1,410 gross for a 675kg Limousin cross from Balmaglaster Farm, South Laggan.
"Top lots of Aberdeen Angus, Shorthorn, and Continental cattle sold well, plainer and weathered kinds were more hesitant."

OTM bulls (2) sold to 195.0p per kg and £1,291 gross for a 662kg Aberdeen Angus from Altnaharry, Kiltarlity.
