DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 27th) sold 555 yearling weaned calves at their annual show and sale of native and continental store cattle (including an Aberdeen Angus section) sponsored by Shearwell Data & Beedie Bros. Ltd., Haulage Contractors.

The judge, Messrs G & D Cowie, Cairnton, Fordyce, awarded the continental champion to a 490kg Limousin cross bullock from Messrs W J & G A Fraser, Little Croy Farm, Croy, realising £1,190. The continental reserve was a 440kg Limousin cross bullock from Messrs J Munro & son, Invercharron, realising £1,140. In the Aberdeen Angus section, the champion prize went to a 370kg bullock from Firm of T J & G Maclean, 1 Raddery, Fortrose, realising £840, and the reserve to a 470kg bullock from Messrs E L M Laing, Wester Fearn, Ardgay, realising £970.

Continental bullocks (204) averaged 225.5p and sold to 273.1p per kg for a pen of 443kg Limousin crosses from Messrs W F Cruickshank and £1,230 gross for a 530kg Limousin cross from Dunmaglass Estate.

Continental heifers (116) averaged 212.6p and sold to 253.5p per kg for a 355kg Simmental cross from J Cameron, Balmacaan, Drumnadrochit and £1,115 gross for a pair of 530kg Charolais crosses from Messrs E Fraser & Co, Gorthleck Mains, Gorthleck.

Aberdeen Angus and native bred bullocks (88) averaged 208.8p and sold to 229.5p per kg for a 305kg Aberdeen Angus cross from D A Gordon, Inchindown, Invergordon and £1,140 gross for a pen of 572kg British Shorthorn cross from M R & S D Dunnett, Achvarasdal Farm, Thurso.

Aberdeen Angus and native bred heifers (47) averaged 196.1p and sold to 216.7p per kg for a 270kg British Shorthorn cross from J Cameron, Balmacaan, Drumnadrochit and £1,100 gross for a 525kg British Shorthorn cross From N R Laing, Milton Croft, Edderton.

Breeding cattle (4) sold to £1600 gross for an Limousin cross cow with heifer calf at foot from M Maclean, 50 North Tolsta, Isle of Lewis.

OTM bulls (3) sold to 106.9p per kg and £1,090 gross for a 1020kg Sailor from Westfield Farm, Thurso.
