DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 4th) sold 496 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.

The show champion sponsored by Barclays Transport, Portsoy and Zoetis with Surecalf was awarded to an eight month old Limousin cross bullock from A MacLean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea scaling in at 305kg and realising £800 gross. The reserve champion was a 315kg, eight month old Limousin cross bullock from Mr I Grant, Slattadale, Lochmaree, which realised £900.

Bullocks (267) averaged 246.8p and sold to 320.9p per kg for a pen of eight 134kg Charolais crosses from Messrs A & D Renwick, Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell and £1,000 gross for a 475kg Aberdeen Angus cross from D M MacDonald, Aird, 5 North Duntulm, Portree.

Heifers (226) averaged 232.2p and sold to 309.9p per kg for a pen of nine 142kg Charolais crosses from Messrs A & D Renwick, Keppoch Farm and £810 gross for a pen of 370kg Charolais crosses also from Messrs A & D Renwick.

Young Bulls (3) averaged 233.6p and sold to 236.0p for a pair of 250kg Short Horn crosses from A C Smith, Dunlichity Farm, Farr and sold to £590 gross.

OTM Bull, (1) sold to 101.9p per kilo and £1090 gross for a 1070kg Simmental cross.
