DINGWALL, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd, (April 10th) sold 15 Young Farmers over-wintered cattle at their annual show and sale, kindly sponsored by Messrs Craiglands Quarry, Fortrose, Conan Vets, Conon Bridge and ABP, Perth.

Bullocks (11) averaged 243.9p and sold to 285.0p per kilo for the 3rd prize unhaltered bullock, a 400kg British Blue cross from Scott Dingwall, Culbokie East, Culbokie, and £1,280 gross twice for the haltered reserve champion and 2nd haltered bullock, a 495kg British Blue cross from Duncan Munro, Invercharron Mains, Ardgay and also for the 1st prize unhaltered bullock, a 520kg Limousin cross from Scott MacRae, Shawpark, North Kessock.

Heifers (4) averaged 262.6p and sold to 340.4p per kilo and £1,600 gross for the overall reserve champion, homebred champion and 1st haltered homebred heifer, a 470kg Limousin cross from Duncan Munro, Invercharron.

The judge, Mr J. McCallum, Mountrich Farm, Dingwall, chose as his Overall Supreme Champion, the 1st haltered bullock, best new exhibitor, best from InverRoss and best junior to a 12 month old 490kg British Blue cross from David Dingwall, Clashoch, Balblair, selling at £1,200 gross to Messrs Backmuir Livestock, Keith.

Overall Reserve Champion went to Duncan Munro, Invercharron with his homebred heifer and 1st haltered homebred heifer, a 14 month old 470kg Limousin cross, realising £1,600 to Mr G. Cameron, Newton Cottage.

The highest daily live weight gain was awarded to Antonia Taylor Ramsay, The Glebe with her 550kg Simmental cross gaining 1.26kg a day.

‘Highest Gross Margin' was awarded to Scott MacRae, with his 500kg Limousin cross, purchased for £740 and selling at £1,220 a gross margin of £480.
