PORTREE, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 23rd) sold 1,379 weaned calves and store cattle at their annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge MR J. Cowie, Nicholson Park, Fordyce, awarded the champion to a seven month old, 320kg, Limousin cross bullock from Mr M. A. Macdonald, Meadle, Struan realising £900. The reserve from Mr C. Morrison, 5 Portnalong, Carbost, was a seven month old, 320kg, Limousin cross bullock realising £960.
Bullocks (749) averaged 220. 9p (-28.8p on the year), and sold to 314.3p per kg for a 210kg Limousin cross from 1 Feorlig, Dunvegan, and £980 gross for a 505kg Charolais cross from 15 Glenconon, Uig.
Heifers (623) averaged 201.4p (-21.7p on the year) and sold to 256.0p per kg for a 250kg Limousin cross from Ose Farm, Struan, and £940 gross for a 500kg Charolais cross from 15 Glenconon.
Young Bulls (7) sold to 228.9p per kg for a pair of 190kg Limousin cross from 7 Kingsburgh, Snizort, and £590 gross for a 310kg Limousin cross from Meadle, Struan.
