PORTREE, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 23rd) sold 1,379 weaned calves and store cattle at their annual district ballot show and sale.
The judge MR J. Cowie, Nicholson Park, Fordyce, awarded the champion to a seven month old, 320kg, Limousin cross bullock from Mr M. A. Macdonald, Meadle, Struan realising £900. The reserve from Mr C. Morrison, 5 Portnalong, Carbost, was a seven month old, 320kg, Limousin cross bullock realising £960.
Bullocks (749) averaged 220. 9p (-28.8p on the year), and sold to 314.3p per kg for a 210kg Limousin cross from 1 Feorlig, Dunvegan, and £980 gross for a 505kg Charolais cross from 15 Glenconon, Uig.
Heifers (623) averaged 201.4p (-21.7p on the year) and sold to 256.0p per kg for a 250kg Limousin cross from Ose Farm, Struan, and £940 gross for a 500kg Charolais cross from 15 Glenconon.
Young Bulls (7) sold to 228.9p per kg for a pair of 190kg Limousin cross from 7 Kingsburgh, Snizort, and £590 gross for a 310kg Limousin cross from Meadle, Struan.
"Quality calves saw buyers bidding strongly, whilst more native types met a more hesitant ringside of buyers."

FORT WILLIAM, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 19th) sold 198 weaned calves and store cattle, 20 OTM cattle and 5 adult head of breeding cattle. Bullocks (116) averaged 197.6p and sold to 252.4p per kg for a pair of 210kg Limousin crosses from Keil Farm, Ardgour, and £800 gross for a 400kg Limousin cross from 8, 9 & 10 Cuilchenna.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 18th) sold 5,585 store sheep. Lambs (3,793) averaged £47.43 and sold to £71 gross for a Cheviots from Free Farm, Tomatin.
STORNOWAY, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 17th) sold 1,362 sheep of all classes. Lambs (591) sold to £60 gross for Texel crosses from 100 Cross Skigersta Road, Port of Ness.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 15th) sold 16 prime cattle. Prime Heifers (16) averaged 195.2p (+2.1p) and sold to 209.0p per kg and £1,283.80 gross.
PORTREE, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 14th) sold 62 weaned calves and store cattle, 35 breeding cattle and 26 OTM cattle. Bullocks (36) sold to 218.6p per kg for a pair of 183kg Simmental crosses from 5 Borreraig, Dunvegan, and £1,000 gross for a 610kg Limousin cross from 5/6 Borneskitaig, Kilmuir.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (October, 11th) sold 168 rams at its annual show and sale of Blackface rams, sponsored by P K N Nutrition. The overall champion was a shearling from Messrs MacDonald, Ess, Carrbridge, realising £1,700 to Messrs Pitmain Estate.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 9th) sold 653 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale. The show champion sponsored by Barclays Transport, Portsoy and judged by Miss Sophie Watt, Cairntack, Balmedie was awarded to a six month old Limousin cross bullock from Mr D MacLean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea scaling in at 260kg and realising £800 gross.
PORTREE, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 7th) sold 2,887 store sheep of all classes. Lambs (1,280) sold to £64 gross for Crosses from 15 Glenconon, Uig.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 3rd) sold 3,630 breeding and store sheep. Breeding ewes (2,924) averaged £63.90 (£53.83 last year) and sold to £128 for a pair of Cheviots from Ose Farm, Struan.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 1st) sold 20 prime cattle. Prime heifers (20) averaged 191.7p (-12.4p) and sold to 200.0p per kg twice and £1,313.50 gross.
