DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 9th) sold 653 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.

The show champion sponsored by Barclays Transport, Portsoy and judged by Miss Sophie Watt, Cairntack, Balmedie was awarded to a six month old Limousin cross bullock from Mr D MacLean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea scaling in at 260kg and realising £800 gross. The reserve champion was a 310kg, six month old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Strathglass Farms, Cannich which realised £700.

Bullocks (387) averaged 222.3p (last year 220.0p) and sold to 339.5p per kg for a 162kg Limousin cross from Messrs A. & D. Renwick, Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell and £1,005 gross twice for a pen of 415kg Limousin crosses from Mr M Cameron, Strone Farm, Banavie and Mr C Cameron, Corriebeg, Banavie.

Heifers (260) averaged 209.1p (last year 214.9p) and sold to 348.7p per kg for a 195kg Limousin cross from Messrs A & D Renwick, Keppoch Farm, Dundonnell and £800 gross for a 320kg Limousin cross from Mrs M MacDonald, 101 Torroble, Lairg.

Young Bulls (6) averaged 201.0p and sold to 227.8p for a 180kg Charolais cross from Mr A C Smith, Dunlichity, Farr and sold to £700 gross for a 375kg Limousin cross from Mr M Cameron, Strone Farm, Banavie.
