Draught Busting Caithness And Sutherland Project Finishing As Of 28th February 2019

The Draught Busting Caithness & Sutherland II project is no longer taking anymore referrals as of 28th February 2019.   The project ends completely as of 30th March 2019 and the energy advice/draught proofing service will no longer be continued beyond this date, existing referrals already agreed in place will be completed.

More firms urged to prepare for Brexit

Businesses in the Highlands and Islands are being encouraged to plan for the impacts of Brexit.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has made the call following the findings of the agency's latest business panel survey, carried out in September and October 2018.

Week Commencing 18th February 2019 SpaceHub Sutherland: The SHS team held two more information events this week - in both the Melness Community Centre and the Pentland Hotel, Thurso.   I attended the Thurso event, which saw a steady stream of interested visitors (around 100 in total) asking questions about the background to the project and on the progress it is making.

Latest Updates on Radioactive Particles On Beaches From Dounreay

The latest updates on radioactive particles released from Dounreay on beaches have been published.   The latest find dates were - Dounreay Foreshore 11 January 2019 Sanside Beach 11 February 2019 Murkle Beach 26 November 2016 Nuclear fuel was reprocessed at Dounreay for almost 40 years.

Advice in Scotland 2017-18 - Increasing Demand

A summary of evidence gathered by the Citizens Advice network in Scotland about their work.   In total, Citizens Advice Bureaux assisted nearly 262,000 clients with almost 766,000 issues during 2017-18.

Young business leaders in the Highlands are being offered a chance to join a dynamic and highly personalised business growth programme to help drive their businesses forward.   In October a chocolatier, an estate agent and a seller of Indian spices along with eight others became the first young leaders to be selected for IMPACT30.

Moray Spaceflight Centre Welcomed

The arrival in Moray of spaceflight company, Orbex, which is expected to bring more than 130 jobs to the region, has been welcomed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).   Orbex has set up a new Scottish base at the Enterprise Park Forres, which opened this week (7 February).

Weekly update from CNSRP - week commencing 4th February 2019.   SpaceHub Sutherland: The SHS team were in the Kyle Community Centre in Tongue for the first of a planned weekly presence in the area on Wednesdays between 1000 to 1300 hrs to allow people to meet with the project team.

Newton Rooms Learning Centres Underway In Highland

Newton Rooms are designed to encourage more young people into careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).   A network of the centres in Norway work with schools and local employers to provide inspirational STEM education in the most rural parts of the country.

Week Commencing 14th January 2019 Enabling activities: Last week's meeting of the North Coast 500 Working Group heard about the imminent launch of the Scottish Government's Natural and Cultural Heritage Fund.  The £5M Fund is being administered by Scottish Natural Heritage, and is open to organisations in the Highlands and Islands.
