Business Support Programme Extended To Benefit More Companies

The Technology Placement programme was developed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) as part of the agency's role in the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal.   Initially targeted at SMEs in the Highland Council area, the programme is now accessible to enterprises of any size within the same region.

RMT Members Vote To Accept Scotrail Pay Offer - Strikes Off

Staff at ScotRail have accepted an increased pay offer, meaning a planned series of strikes will now be averted.  The RMT had planned to strike next Saturday followed by regular strikes on Fridays and Saturdays up to Christmas.

Uk Reaches Deal With Norway To Secure Opportunities For UK Fishing Industry - Anyone For More Monkfish?

The UK has reached an agreement with Norway to secure increased opportunities for the UK fishing industry in 2023.   The UK fishing industry will benefit from increased fishing opportunities worth nearly £5 million in 2023 after reaching an agreement with Norway to secure access to key fishing stocks for UK vessels, Defra has announced today (Friday 25 November 2022).

End of Covid restrictions sees net migration hit 500,000 for first time ever

The unique combination of the ending of Covid restrictions, coupled with bespoke schemes for Ukrainians, Afghans and Hong Kong residents, have seen net migration hit a record high of 504,000.   In the 12 months to June 2022, despite net migration from the EU actually falling, the Resolution Foundation said today (Thursday) in response to the latest ONS statistics.

Energy Price Guarantee On Course To Cost £16 Billion Over The Winter Months

The Ofgem announcement on Thursday 24 November 2022 that the annual energy bill of a typical household would have risen to £4,279 between January and March 2023, were prices not capped by the Government's Energy Price Guarantee (EPG), means that supporting all households with energy bills over these three months will cost £16 billion, according to Resolution Foundation analysis.   The EPG is set to save a typical energy bill payer around £630 between January and March next year.

RCN Scotland Board members will, in the coming days, be considering the details of a revised NHS pay offer from Scottish government.   The pay offer was made on 24 November 2022 following negotiations between the RCN and other health trade unions and the Scottish government.

16 Days of Action against violence against women and girls takes place from 25 November to 10 December, to increase awareness of the need to tackle gender-based violence including domestic abuse.   The Global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence against women is an international campaign originating from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991.

£15 Million Funding Boost For Women Who Are Victims Of Violence

Millions of pounds are being allocated to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG), the Home Secretary has announced today (25 November 2022).   Measures announced include: £8.4 million to support victims of violence against women and girls targeted funding for the most vulnerable communities.

Boost For UK Fishing Industry With New Infrastructure Projects

£20 million awarded to modernise and improve infrastructure across the seafood sector with a further £30 million available from today.   Funding to boost the UK fishing industry through projects to upgrade infrastructure and revive local docks has been announced today, as the latest round of investment opens for bids from the UK-wide £100 million Seafood Fund to modernise the sector.

Under 22s Living In Scotland Are Entitled To Free Bus Travel With Card

All young people and children aged 5-21 years can apply for a card to access the Young Persons' (Under 22s) Free Bus Travel Scheme, which began on 31 January 2022.   You will need a National Entitlement Card (NEC) or Young Scot NEC with the valid free travel entitlement with you whenever you want to take the bus - otherwise you'll have to pay for your trip.

National Flu And Covid-19 Surveillance Reports Published

Weekly national influenza and coronavirus (COVID-19) report, COVID-19 activity, seasonal flu and other seasonal respiratory illnesses.   Flu surveillance up until end of week 46 Swab positivity for flu* has increased slightly and is now at 8.2%; it is highest in 5 to 14-year-olds at 18%, followed by 15 to 44-year-olds at 15.8%.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (November, 23rd) sold 837 store cattle, 13 head of breeding cattle and 165 OTM cattle.   Bullocks (420) averaged 235.4p per kg and sold to 298.4p per kg for a 315kg Limousin cross from Hastain, Bayhead and £1,380 gross for a 605kg Limousin cross from Rothiemurcus Estate, Aviemore.

Staff At 19 UK Universities Strike On Several Days Over Pay - 24 November First Day

Staff employed by 19 higher education institutions have commenced strike action over pay this week, starting with Glasgow Caledonian University, where employees began striking yesterday (21 November) and have continued today.   Administrators, cleaners, library, security and catering workers, some of the lowest paid in the university sector, are among those taking part.
