Supporting Scotland's Local Food And Drink

A total of 24 projects from across the country have been awarded funding of £110,000 to promote and showcase quality regional produce.   The latest round of the Regional Food Fund (RFF) was launched in April this year to support the development of local food and drink projects with grants of up to £5,000.

Over 285,000 Medicines And Medical Devices Seized UK-wide In Global Action

Officers from the MHRA have seized large quantities of illegally traded medicines and medical devices in an Interpol week of action known as "Operation Pangea".   Medicines and medical devices valued at over £850,000, totalling more than 285,000 items, have been seized by officers from the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as part of a global operation to tackle the illegal sale of medical products, with UK seizures estimated to be worth around 9 per cent of the global total.

1.2 Million Low Earners To See Boost In Take-home Pay

On 20 July 2022 the government has published legislation confirming that low earners who save through a Net Pay Arrangement (NPA) will get the same level of government top-up as those who use Relief at Source schemes.   1.2 million low earners to see a boost to their take-home pay from 2025.

Consumer Price Inflation, UK June 2022

Main points The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 8.2% in the 12 months to June 2022, up from 7.9% in May.   The largest upward contributions to the annual CPIH inflation rate in June 2022 came from housing and household services (principally from electricity, gas and other fuels, and owner occupiers' housing costs) and transport (principally from motor fuels).

Phone scams reported to HMRC fall in Scotland

Phone scam reports have fallen by 84 pent cent in Scotland over the last year, new regional data from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has revealed.   In the Scotland, 384 phone scams were reported to HMRC in June this year compared to 2432 in June 2021.

UK average house prices increased by 12.8% over the year to May 2022, up from 11.9% in April 2022.   The average UK house price was £283,000 in May 2022, which is £32,000 higher than this time last year.

Can Food Tariff Cuts Really Put A Dent In Inflation? - A Very Small One Maybe

Why do we have tariffs on bananas? So asked prime minister Boris Johnson last month, first during a 9 June speech in Blackpool and then three weeks later while in Madrid for a Nato summit.   By cutting "food tariffs we don't need", the government could put a dent in what was already the highest consumer price inflation in four decades, Johnson claimed, speaking in the Spanish capital a week-and-a-half before his eventual defenestration.
