Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 23 November 2021

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (November, 23rd) sold 26 prime cattle at its Christmas Show & Sale sponsored by Highland Tractors and judged by F Hutcheson Esq, Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall.   Prime bullocks (4) averaged 262.3p (N/C) and sold to 336.2p per kg and £2,000.39 gross.

Supporting Sustainable Local Businesses - Scotland Loves Local Fund delivering grants.

Over 100 organisations have received a £1.5 million funding boost to help revitalise cities, town centres and neighbourhoods across Scotland.   The first round of grants from the Scotland Loves Local (SLL) Fund are worth £14,000 on average and are being distributed to businesses and development organisations.

Licensing Short-term Lets - Legislation laid before Scottish Parliament

Councils will be given powers to ensure short-term lets are safe and meet the needs of their local communities under legislation laid before the Scottish Parliament.   Under the legislation, all local authorities will be required to establish a short-term lets licensing scheme by October 2022.

Negative Test Becomes Part Of Certification Scheme - No Extension To Covid Passport Schem

Expanded testing needed to keep cases down.   People attending venues covered by Scotland's COVID certification scheme are to be given the option of providing a recent negative lateral flow test for the virus, as an alternative to proof of vaccination.

Contractor To Start On Upgrade Works At Uig Harbour

RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd are starting works at Uig Harbour this week where the ferry terminal will be upgraded with new infrastructure.   This forms a key part of the Skye Triangle upgrade where The Highland Council have been working closely with Transport Scotland, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL), CalMac Ferries Ltd and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to deliver the Uig works with the ongoing upgrade works at Tarbert and Lochmaddy.

The Young Company Capital Investment Grant Scheme

As part of our continued response to supporting economic recovery following the pandemic, this fund aims to stimulate an increase in regional employment for individuals aiming to move into self-employment whilst helping to support growth and resilience in young companies.   The scheme can provide grant funding of up to 50% of eligible costs for capital equipment for start-up or young companies/social enterprises (less than five years old).

The Highland Council is working in partnership with the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership to proactively bring privately-owned empty homes across the Highlands back into use.   With funding support from the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, the Council has been able to employ a full-time Empty Homes Officer for a two-year period.

Energy Storage Systems To Support EV Drivers Rapidly Charging On England's Motorways

The challenge of finding somewhere to rapidly charge electric vehicles on a long journey could become a thing of the past thanks to a multi-million-pound investment from National Highways.   The government-owned organisation plans to invest in Energy Storage Systems - essentially giant battery packs - for service stations where the grid supply is not enough for rapid charging infrastructure.
