Assistance For Communities To Clear Snow And Ice From Footpaths

The Highland Council is reminding communities that its winter gritting programme has started and will continue until 14 April 2022.   As in previous years, the Council is offering assistance to communities who wish to take action in their own area to help clear snow and ice from footpaths.

£18 Million to Help Level Up Communities Across scotland

More than 50 projects across Scotland are set to receive UK Government investment to help people into work, boost productivity and deliver net zero.  The Community Renewal Fund will pilot new programmes that invest in people, boost skills and support local business - to build more communities that people are proud to call home.   The £200 million Fund is supporting almost 500 projects in towns, villages and coastal communities across the whole United Kingdom to ensure that no place is left behind as the UK Government delivers on its commitment to level up the country.

A flock of kept birds in the Angus constituency have tested positive for avian influenza (H5N1).   In order to limit the further spread of disease, appropriate restrictions have been imposed on the premises.

MOBILIST boosts growth in developing countries by investing in green infrastructure, technology and businesses.   Mobilising Institutional Capital Through Listed Product Structures (MOBILIST), the UK's flagship programme to mobilise large scale investment through publicly listed markets, received a £66 million funding boost today at COP26 in Glasgow.

At COP26 EBRD Launches Plan To Mobilise Private Capital For Climate Finance

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced its intention to double the mobilisation of private sector climate financing by 2025.   The way to achieve this target was set out in an Action Plan on Mobilising Private Capital for Climate Finance, unveiled at COP26, the global climate summit.

Programme Offers Support To Tourism On Journey To Low-carbon Future

Destination Net Zero will provide support to tourism businesses and destinations as they transition to a greener, more sustainable future.   A key strand in the Scottish Government's COVID-19 Tourism Recovery Programme, the initiative includes the creation of a website offering practical advice for businesses when moving to low-carbon, an awareness-raising programme promoting net zero as good business and funding support, due to be announced later this year, for up to 250 businesses and at least two destinations to invest in carbon reduction activity.

Avian influenza prevention zone - Zone Declared In Scotland And Across Great Britain

Following a number of detections of avian influenza (bird flu) in wild birds across Great Britain, the Chief Veterinary Officers from England, Scotland and Wales have declared an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) across the whole of Great Britain to mitigate the risk of the disease spreading amongst poultry and captive birds.   This means that from 1700 on Wednesday 3 November 2021 it will be a legal requirement for all bird keepers in Great Britain to follow strict biosecurity measures to help protect their flocks.

Latest React-1 Study Findings Show Rise In Covid-19 Infection Rates

Interim findings from the latest report of REACT-1, one of the largest studies into coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in England, have been published today.   Over 67,000 volunteers took part in the study in England to examine the levels of COVID-19 in the general population between 19 and 29 October.

Over A Third Of Brits Have Binned Christmas Presents On Boxing Day

As the nation starts planning for Christmas early to avoid supply shortages, new research reveals the misjudged gifts you should AVOID giving your friends and family.   The research, from the UK's number one sharing app OLIO, found that 34 per cent thought that a dead plant was one of the worst gifts you could receive; with out-of-date chocolates next on the list (29 per cent) as well as loo roll (29 per cent); perfume that smells awful (26 per cent) and regifting someone the same thing they gave you last year all featuring as gifts that are most likely to end up straight in the bin.

New Guidance For Accident And Emergency Departments

The Scottish Government has published new guidance for emergency department teams to ensure people are being seen by the right person in the right place for their healthcare need.   It has been developed in response to a request from NHS Boards to support hospitals to safely refer people to the most appropriate place for treatment, if they do not need emergency care.

Investigation Into Southeastern Financial Debacle Is ‘Fatally Compromised Farce' Says Rmt

RMT, the UK's leading specialist transport union, has slammed the Department for Transport's ‘independent' review into financial ‘bad faith' on Southeastern railways, describing it as a ‘fatally compromised farce' in which the public could have no confidence.   The union has called on the Public Accounts Committee to examine the actions of the Department for Transport and reiterated its demand that the government cancel its tendering process for the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise, currently held by the same company that ran Southeastern, and run it in public ownership through the Operator of Last Resort.
