Bird Flu - Latest Situation: Avian Influenza Prevention Zone Declared Across Great Britain

Poultry keepers must take action now to protect their flocks from bird flu this winter.   Following a number of detections of avian influenza (bird flu) in wild birds across Great Britain, the Chief Veterinary Officers from England, Scotland and Wales have declared an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) across the whole of Great Britain to mitigate the risk of the disease spreading amongst poultry and captive birds.

Finance Day At COP26

The Highland Council took delivery of two huge Archimedes Screws today on the site where the local authority is building a new hydroelectric generator and interactive visitor experience on the River Ness.   The generator will use the Archimedes Screws to harness the energy of the water flowing down the River Ness.

Three Motorists Reported Following Road Policing Patrols In Caithness

Road Policing officers have been carrying out patrols across the north of the country over the weekend, as part of Operation Cedar (Challenge, Educate, Detect and Reduce).   We can confirm that patrols carried out in the Caithness area resulted in three motorists being caught driving at high speeds.

Soaring Numbers Stuck In Hospital Due To Social Care Crisis

Age Scotland is calling for urgent action to tackle the social care "crisis", with soaring numbers of older people stuck in hospital beds waiting for care in their communities.   The latest figures from Public Health Scotland show that the number of delayed discharges from hospitals has soared in recent months, now matching pre-pandemic levels.

More Measures To Improve A and E Waiting Times

An additional £10 million is going to health boards across Scotland to bring in a range of measures to get A&E patients to the right care as quickly as possible.   This includes deploying physiotherapists and occupational therapists at A&E units to help triage and treat patients who would otherwise wait to see nursing staff.

Multi-billion pound green hydrogen contract signed on eve of COP

Fortescue Future Industries signs agreement with JCB and Ryze Hydrogen to become United Kingdom's largest supplier of green, renewable hydrogen Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) will become the largest supplier of green hydrogen (GH2) to the United Kingdom after signing a multi-billion pound deal with construction giant J C Bamford Excavators (JCB) and Ryze Hydrogen (Ryze).   Under a memorandum of understanding signed today prior to the climate conference, COP26, JCB and Ryze will purchase 10 percent of FFI's global green hydrogen production.
