New Child Disability Payment To Be Introduced Next Summer in Scotland

Child Disability Payment will be the next new benefit to be introduced by the Scottish Government.   In an update to the Scottish Parliament today, Cabinet Secretary for Social Security Shirley-Anne Somerville said Social Security Scotland will start taking applications from summer 2021 as part of a pilot, ahead of a full roll-out across the country from autumn 2021.

Highland Council to consult on Common Good property list for Wick

The Highland Council is today (17 November 2020) launching a consultation giving the community until 12 March 2021 to comment on the proposed contents of the Common Good Fund Asset Register for Wick.   The Highland Council does not currently hold a Common Good Fund for the former Royal Burgh of Wick.

Homelessness Equalities Statistics

Scotland's Chief Statistician today released further breakdowns of homelessness data by age, gender and ethnicity.   Findings for 2019-20 show: compared to the Scottish population, those assessed as homeless are more likely to be: male (55% vs 48%); single adult and single parent households (88% vs 59%); in the 16-49 age range (86% vs 52%); and non-White (14% vs 5%).

Mental Health Support For Veterans

Veterans across Scotland will continue to have access to a range of welfare and psychological support with more funding for mental health services.   The Scottish Government is providing Veterans First Point Scotland with more than £658,000 to continue to deliver its services in 2021-22.

UK energy market regulator Ofgem will hold a tender for the offshore transmission licences for the 900-MW Moray East and 857-MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farms.   The competitive round will open on November 30, 2020, the watchdog said last week.

UK-led space telescope to unravel mysteries of the cosmos

The European Space Agency has given the green light to the world's first space telescope dedicated to studying how exoplanet atmospheres form and evolve.   Its mission is to understand the links between a planet's chemistry and its environment by charting approximately 1,000 known planets outside our own Solar System, arming scientists with a full picture of what exoplanets are made of, how they were formed and how they will evolve.
