Number of NHS operations increases

Health Secretary Neil Gray has thanked NHS staff for their efforts as latest figures show that in the 12 months to November 2025 the number of operations carried out increased by 5.3% on the same period the year before.   A total of 272,465 operations were performed during this time according to the statistics from Public Health Scotland.

Temporary overnight traffic signals on A9 for three nights

On the A9 between the Invereen Roundabout and the B9154 Moy South junction.   BT are carrying out works close to the A9 carriageway, to allow for safe working, overnight traffic signals will be in place to manage traffic through a short 300 metre section lane closure.

Business insights and impact on the UK economy - January 2026

Approximately a quarter (25%) of businesses reported that they are currently using some form of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in late December 2025, up 15 percentage points since the question was first introduced in late September 2023.  For businesses with 250 employees or more, the proportion was higher at 44%.

Criminal surcharge used to support victims - Hospital violence charity among 19 to share in £1 million fund

Medics Against Violence (MAV), a charity operating across 10 hospital Emergency Departments, is among 19 organisations to receive a share of more than £1 million from the Victim Surcharge Fund, which is financed by penalties imposed on offenders who received a court fine.   The funding will support MAV to offer practical assistance and essential items to people arriving at hospital after experiencing violence or exploitation.

ScotRail records busiest December under public ownership

ScotRail recorded its busiest December since public ownership began, with 7,866,187 passenger journeys made across Scotland's Railway during December 2025.   The figure represents an increase of 701,910 journeys (+10 per cent) compared to December 2024, when 7,164,277 journeys were recorded, and a 69 per cent increase on December 2022, when 4,646,072 journeys were made.

£600,0000 available to support Windrush compensation claimants
