Monthly GDP For Scotland Estimates for September

Scotland's onshore GDP grew by 0.2% in the three months to September (2025 Quarter 3), up from the growth of 0.6% in the three months to August, and growth of 0.5% in July, according to statistics announced by the Chief Statistician.  This follows growth of 0.2% in 2025 Quarter 2 (April to June).

What are the changes to agricultural property relief?

The government has announced that any unused £1 million allowance for agricultural property relief and business property relief will be transferable between spouses and civil partners, to bring it in line with the treatment of the nil-rate band and residence nil-rate band.   This makes the inheritance tax rules for those with agricultural and business assets less complex and fairer.

Minimum Wage To Rise to £12.71 per hour from April 2026

The UK's National Living Wage (NLW) will rise to £12.71 per hour from April 2026, a 4.1% increase from the current rate.   The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for younger workers and apprentices will also see significant increases.

Cash Isa savings will be restricted.   The amount of money that can be saved tax-free each year in a cash Isa (Individual Savings Account) will be reduced from £20,000 to £12,000 a year for the under 65s.
