SIMEC Atlantis Energy that owns Meygen that runs the turbines in the Pentland Firth, the AIM listed sustainable and renewable energy developer and operating company (AIM: SAE), announces the appointment of Graham Reid as the new Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Atlantis effective 18th January 2021.  Tim Cornelius has agreed to take up a new role as a Senior Adviser to the Group and will consequently resign his position as Chief Executive Officer, effective the same date.

Social Care In England To Receive £269 Million To Boost Staff Levels And Testing
Funding to protect and support staff and residents in England in care homes and those receiving help in their own homes.   The impact of the new variant is being felt across the country, with staff absence rates rising sharply both in care homes and among home care staff, due to testing positive or having to self-isolate.

Regulator Appoints Manager To Charity Wick Academy Development Fund As Part Of Decade-long Inquiry
The Scottish regulator has appointed a manager to take over a charity as part of a decade-long inquiry to ensure its trustees do not part with its property without consent.   The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator opened an inquiry into Wick Academy Development Fund in September 2010 after concerns were raised about its public benefit, and a failure to make use of its accumulated funds.

24 People Arrested For Drink Driving And 27 Arrested For Drug Driving In Highland
Police in the Highland and Islands are re-enforcing a strong road safety message after the recent festive drink and drug drive campaign which saw 24 people arrested for drink driving and 27 arrested for drug driving across the divisional area.   Inspector Donnie Mackinnon from the Road Policing Division based in Dingwall said: "It is extremely disappointing to see that there continues to be a number of people who knowingly take risks and place themselves, and others in danger.

Travel Corridors Suspended - 10 Day Quarantine For Anyone Arriving In Scotland
Following identification of a new variant of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Brazil, the Scottish Government will impose additional restrictions on arrivals.   From 04:00 on Monday, all country exemptions from self-isolation after international travel will be suspended.

Helping Vulnerable Young People Through Covid-19
Funding to help more vulnerable young people across Scotland into work has been announced by Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop.   Part of the Scottish Government's Young Person’s Guarantee, the £986,702 investment will provide specialist pre-employment support for an additional 1,300 16 and 17-year-olds.

An American millionaire Dr Betsee Pekr has donated £40,000 to Pulteney Centre after opening the doors of her private residence to producers of the Netflix hit drama The Crown.   Dr Betsee Parker is an Episcopalian minister and philanthropist from Virginia, bought Ackergill Tower in early 2019 from Clarenco after it ceased trading.

Business and personal bank accounts can now be use to apply for Temporary Business Closure Grant
Applicants for the Scottish Government's Temporary Business Closure Grant can now apply even if they do not have a formal business bank account.   Businesses will now be able to use a personal bank account as evidence, if the account is mainly used for their business banking.
