Deadline For School Age Payment Approaches - Families urged to make sure they don't miss out

Parents and guardians who get qualifying benefits or tax credits and who have a child born between 1 March 2017 and 28 February 2018 are being urged to check whether they should apply for Best Start Grant School Age Payment as this year's deadline approaches.   Applications for the one-off payment of £267.65 per child, which can be used for books, bags, clothes and equipment for school, have to be submitted by midnight on the 28 February closing date.

HMRC Late Payment Interest Rates To Be Revised After Bank Of England Increases Base Rate

HMRC interest rates for late payments will be revised following the Bank of England interest rate rise to 4%.   The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee announced on 2 February 2023 to increase the Bank of England base rate to 4% from 3.5%.

Covid-19, Flu, RSV Surveillance Up Until End Of Week 4

COVID-19 surveillance up until end of week 4 Coronavirus (COVID-19) activity shows a mixed picture - with some indicators, most notably hospitalisations and Pillar 2 positivity suggesting a modest increase in activity.   The COVID-19 hospital admission rate for week 4 was 6.61 per 100,000 population, a small increase from 5.94 per 100,000 in the previous week.

Bank Rate Increased To 4%

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) sets monetary policy to meet the 2% inflation target, and in a way that helps to sustain growth and employment.  At its meeting ending on 1 February 2023, the MPC voted by a majority of 7-2 to increase Bank Rate by 0.5 percentage points, to 4%.
