Highland Licensing Board - Extension to public consultation on overprovision policy statement
The Highland Licensing Board has included a third option to the current on-line consultation currently underway on the options for proposals for the Licensing Board's Overprovision Policy Statement 2013-16. Launched at the start of this month, the consultation invites members of the public to have their say on whether there is an overprovision of licensed premises in any locality within the area of Highland Licensing Board.15/9/2013
New online business advice and information facility launched by Highland Trading Standards
Highland Council’s Trading Standards has today launched a new information website service specifically designed for Highland business and trade users. Gordon Robb, Highland Trading Standards Manager explains: “We receive a considerable amount of calls to our free ‘Business Advice Line” service which covers the whole of the Highland area.15/9/2013
Dounreay Test Alarms on Wednesday 18th September
An emergency exercise will be held at Dounreay on Wednesday 18th September 2013. The Dounreay site alarm will be sounded to initiate the exercise and may sound again throughout the duration of the exercise.12/9/2013
River Ness Flood Scheme work starts in earnest
The Inverness public is being advised that work will start in earnest from Monday 16 September on the construction of flood walls along the River Ness between the Ness Bridge and Friars Bridge. Every attempt is being made to minimise disruption by maintaining at all times pedestrian access to shops and businesses, which will continue to trade as normal.12/9/2013
33 Highlanders Caught Not Wearing Seat Belts
Police in Highlands and Islands report numbers detected during national seatbelt day of action. Police Scotland Highland and Islands Division report that 33 people were found to be within vehicles without wearing a seatbelt during the national day of action, which ended yesterday morning.12/9/2013

Council holds Industry Day for potential ICT suppliers
Over 100 business representatives will be attending an ICT suppliers “Industry Day” hosted by The Highland Council in the Thistle Hotel, Inverness on Monday 16 September. The council has arranged the event to provide information about how it will ensure the supply of ICT Services is continued when an existing contract comes to its end in March 2015.12/9/2013
Newtonhill Woodland/ Landfill Car Park Closed to Public
The Highland Council is advising people that the car park immediately adjoining the former landfill site at Newtonhill in Caithness is to be closed in the interests of public safety, with visitors to be directed to the nearby Newtonhill Croft Community Woodland. The landfill was operated by the former Caithness County and District Councils from the mid 1960s until its closure in the mid 1970s and was managed as a community woodland between 1996 and 2008, when the site was closed for reasons of public safety, due to the presence of substances in the soils including heavy metals, arsenic and asbestos.12/9/2013

Carrier bag charge regulations put before Parliament.
A minimum charge of 5p per bag in a bid to reduce carrier bag use will be introduced in October next year, Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead has revealed. Draft regulations have been put before the Scottish Parliament which will see retailers begin to charge from October 20, 2014.12/9/2013
