Gills Bay Transmission For Marine Generation - Public Exhibition
FROM SSE Project information We are carrying out a number of upgrades to the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland. This work will reinforce the network and provide extra capacity for new generators of electricity wishing to connect.30/8/2013
Scottish Housing Completions Fall
Scotland mired in housing crisis say builders as completions fall by 25 per cent and starts slump to lowest on record. Responding to official statistics for the latest quarter showing that housing completions across all sectors fell by 25 per cent and that starts had slumped to their lowest figure on record1, the trade body representing the Scottish home building industry said it was extremely disappointed but not surprised by the news.30/8/2013

Week Commencing 26th Aaugust 2013 Energy/ Business Services: Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Ltd (part of the SSE Group) is developing proposals for a new 132kilovolt overhead line between the proposed new Thurso South substation at Geiselittle and a new substation at Phillips Mains near Mey. It has recently published a consultation document on the proposals, which can be viewed at http://www.sse.com/GillsBayRadial/ProjectInformation Two consultation events will be held in Caithness: at Mey Hall on Thursday 5th September 11am-2.30pm and 5pm-7.30pm; and in Caithness Horizons, Thurso on Friday 6th September from 3pm-7.30pm A group of local businesses – including Wick Harbour Authority and Scrabster Harbour Trust - travelled to Lowestoft this week to look in detail at the offshore wind operations base already established there.29/8/2013

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts, (August, 29th) sold 3,590 store and breeding sheep incorporating annual sale of HISHA accredited sheep and first sale on behalf of Lewis Livestock Producers. Store lambs (863) averaged £52 and sold to £80 gross for Texel crosses from Ballachraggan Farm, Kildary.29/8/2013

A successful programme which helps ambitious food and drink companies access new routes to grow their sales in UK markets has received funding of £111,000 from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). Access to Markets is delivered by industry leadership organisation Scotland Food & Drink (SF&D) and aims to build sales of Scottish food and drink and help businesses exploit new opportunities with UK retailers and across the foodservice sector.28/8/2013
Young Caithness People Get Job Ready Experience From DSRL
A week long summer school was held in late July for students of Thurso, Wick and Farr High School students in 4th, 5th & 6th years to prepare them for the world of work. The course, organised by DSRL (Dounreay Site restoratiopn Ltd) on behalf of the NDA (Nuclear Decommissioning Agency), was supported by North Highland College and Skills Development Scotland.28/8/2013

Phase two of Scotland fellows announced
With a referendum on Scottish Independence due to be held in 2014, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has appointed two new fellows and one new Centre who will undertake research that will inform the debate in the run-up to the referendum. A special meeting of the Highland Licensing Board took place yesterday in Inverness to consider the draft Licensing Policy Statement for 2013-2016. The draft has been out for public consultation so yesterday members were able to discuss the responses received and make alterations to the draft.26/8/2013
Rural Affairs Secretary confirms compensation paid for fallen stock
More than 4,000 farmers across Scotland who lost livestock during this year’s extreme weather have received compensation from the Scottish Government. On a visit to Arran, Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead confirmed most of the Scottish Government’s £750,000 Fallen Stock Fund has now been paid out.26/8/2013
