Highland Council Trading Standards supports FASathon - the Friends Against Scams marathon day

Highland Council Trading Standards is encouraging Highland residents to take part in ‘FASathon', the Friends Against Scams marathon day, on 21st October 2020.

The aim of the FASathon campaign is to get as many people as possible to complete the free Friends Against Scams online awareness session to learn about the different types of scams and how to protect yourself and others against scams.

Mark McGinty, Trading Standards Team Leader, said:"Anyone can be a victim of a scam, so Highland Council Trading Standards are joining Friends Against Scams to support their FASathon campaign to get as many people #ScamAware as possible. Highland residents keen to learn how to protect themselves and loved ones from scams are encouraged to complete the online scams awareness session today at www.friendsagainstscams.org.uk."

Louise Baxter, Head of the National Trading Standards Scams Team, said:‘I am thrilled that nearly 600,000 people have taken our Friends Against Scams awareness session, as this helps people to protect themselves and their loved ones against these terrible crimes. Whilst this is an amazing achievement, it is vital that people continue to take and share our awareness session. Highland Council have been a long-standing partner and lead the local fight against scams. I join them in encouraging you to take our online Friends Against Scams session today to help your community take a stand against scams.'

Still time to return Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council election ballots

Anyone eligible to vote in the contested Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council election is reminded that their postal ballot papers need to be completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope provided by 12 noon on Thursday, 8 October 2026.   Candidates standing were invited to submit a statement to support their candidacy and these statements are provided in the envelopes mailed out along with the ballot papers to all eligible voters.

Highland Council proceeds to procurement for a new electric Corran Ferry

The Highland Council has reached another significant milestone in the delivery of a replacement Corran Ferry, with the procurement for a new electric vessel.   Funded through a £58 million investment from the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, including £28 million from the Scottish Government for the new electric vessel, £20 million from the UK Government and £10 million from The Highland Council towards landside infrastructure, the project will deliver a modern replacement ferry service for one of Scotland's busiest single-vessel crossings.
