Newton Park Children And Staff Love Their Marvellous Mealtimes!

Children and staff at Newton Park Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) in Wick have been enjoying marvellous mealtimes!
Dedicated staff, supported by the Excellence and Equity leads Heather Sutherland and Natalie Mackay, began looking at the lunch experience through the eyes of their children. They then made contact with Gemma Patterson, a fellow Equity and Excellence lead, who was also working to develop the ‘marvellous meals project' within a number of Falkirk nurseries.
Laura Harper, Head Teacher at Newton Park Primary Nursery said: "I have been delighted with the Marvellous Meals initiative. Lunch time is now such a positive experience for the children and the staff, with quality interactions taking place at each table and much more food being eaten. The children enjoy their lunch time and look forward to having a blether at their table!
"We would like to thank the Newton Park catering staff who have been so accommodating and have developed lovely relationships with the children to become part of our wee nursery family. We would also like to thank Gemma, who was kind enough to meet with us and share her story".
Chair of The Highland Council's Education Committee, Cllr John Finlayson said: “This is an excellent example of Highland staff understanding and delivering on children's needs in our Early Learning and Childcare settings, and one of the ways we are working towards the vision to getting it right for every child. It is important for children to have access to a nutritious meal every day and this will play a significant part towards the children’s enhanced learning and development."
