The first article went on in April 2001 and each year since then has seen an increasing number of articles.
The core of the site is an index of local businesses and groups offering the chance to get information out with links to Facebook and web sites.
Owner Bill Fernie said," The Business Index grew out of Caithness.org and I expanded the concept of offering free services to help businesses gain an online presence from the very start. In the early days there was no Facebook to get going fast.
"The index is a directory of businesses and organisations in Caithness with the entries created mainly by the businesses themselves."
"The idea of free services is not new but it did need some development to fit Caithness. Free ads such as in the property section assists selling house, rentals. Many visitors to the area find things of use before they visit and indeed I often find myself answering questions and giving direction in emails."
So on to the next thousand articles.
Bill said,"I try to find articles about Caithness businesses but also add many items that might be of interest on finance, taxation, Highland council, etc The site has become more like a magazine."
