11 Highland Community Councils form after interim elections - 3 New Wick Community Councillors

Following last month's announcement of interim community council elections for 15 Highland communities. The Highland Council is today, 1 September 2022, able to confirm that 11 have been formed uncontested.
They are:

Aviemore & Vicinity Community Council
Culloden Community Council
Duror & Kentallen Community Council
Glengarry Community Council
Kinlochbervie Community Council
Kinlochleven Community Council
Morvern Community Council
Raasay Community Council
Resolis Community Council
Wick Community Council

4 Community Councils failed to attract half the maximum membership so have not been established.

The next date scheduled for Interim Community Council elections will be spring 2023 and full elections will take place in November 2023.

Council calls for meaningful engagement from Home Office Over 300 Asylum Seekers Being Sent to Inverness
The Highland Council continues to call for meaningful engagement from the Home Office over its plans to temporarily accommodate up to 300 adult male asylum seekers at Cameron Barracks, Inverness. It follows an email on Monday from Alex Norris MP, Minister for Border Security and Asylum, to Council Leader, Raymond Bremner, which failed to answer questions raised by the Council or address community concerns.27/11/2025
