Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Gaelic, Kate Forbes MSP, has announced the appointment of Angus Campbell as Chair of the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).   The appointment is for three years from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2028.

Action plan targets growth of Highland workforce - New initiative aims to capitalise on infrastructure investment
A PLAN to ensure the Highlands maximises the benefits of billions of pounds in infrastructure investment is being launched by Deputy First Minster Kate Forbes.   The Workforce North Action Plan for The Highland Council area brings together a range of local and national partners with key employers to drive co-investment and collaboration.

More access to Cairngorm plateau pathways could be on the way
More visitors to Cairngorm Mountain could access pathways from the top station of the funicular railway to the summit of Cairn Gorm - if trials by the resort's operating company prove successful.   Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd (CMSL) plans to use mobile phones to track walkers’ movements and ensure they keep to the designated paths within the ski area to protect the environment.

Caithness and Orkney primary schools to explore the science of water
Primary school pupils in Caithness and Orkney will soon have the chance to dive into the fascinating science of water, thanks to a new industry and education partnership with Scottish Water.   Delivered locally by the Science Skills Academy (SSA), the Water Cycle Workshop gives pupils the opportunity to create their own mini water cycle.

Elevator UK will develop and manage the services offered by the Manufacturing Innovation Centre Moray.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has appointed a specialist operating company to run a new multi-million-pound innovation centre to support manufacturing in Moray.

Energy services company, Global, is set to develop a new head office on Inverness Campus, as part of a company expansion that includes the creation of more than 50 new jobs.   Campus developer, HIE, has sold a 3.21 acre development plot to Global, where they will build a state-of-the-art head office next to the Life Sciences Innovation Centre (LSIC) and adjacent to UHI Inverness College.

New programme accelerates deep tech from lab to market
A new programme has launched to accelerate the journey from prototype to market for deep tech products - led by Scottish Enterprise in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and other national innovation leaders.   Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes officially launched the Deep Tech Supercluster Programme on 11 September at a showcase event held at the Bayes Centre, University of Edinburgh.
