Highland council Increasing charges from 1 April

31st March 2025

Highland Council is implementing several changes to service charges in 2025:

Council Rent Charges: An 8% increase has been agreed for council homes to address rising costs and fund housing improvements. The average weekly rent for council homes will rise to £82.84, which is still below the national average.

Council Tax and Scottish Water Charges: Adjustments to council tax rates and water service charges are planned for 2025 and 2026. These changes aim to balance the council's budget while maintaining essential services.

Budget Savings Package: A £54.6 million savings package has been introduced over three years. This includes redesigning services, generating income, and investing in local communities through the Highland Investment Plan.

These measures are part of the council's efforts to address financial challenges while continuing to provide essential services.
