Postal votes sent out for Crofting Commission elections

Postal ballot papers were issued on Friday, 24 February 2012 to the 10,877 voters eligible to take part in the forthcoming Crofting Commission elections to elect five new board members representing Shetland, East Highlands, Western Isles, West Highlands & South West, and Highlands.

A total of 28 candidates are vying for the five places on the Board. There will be no contest in the sixth area - Orkney and Caithness - where Arnie Pirie has been elected unopposed.

The election will be conducted under the Alternative Vote System and ballot papers must be returned in the envelope provided by 4.00 pm on Thursday, 15 March. The count will take place at Inverness Town Hall on Friday 16 March.

Members agree Highland Council's new Community Wealth Building Strategy
Members at today's (14 March 2024) meeting of The Highland Council agreed the local authority's new draft Community Wealth Building Strategy.   They were also asked to note that a period of public engagement on the draft will now begin, with a final strategy returning to full Council for consideration in September.
